Selwyn Centre Community Liaison

We are seeking a talented Selwyn Centre Community Liaison to promote our Selwyn Centre's and provide coordination to the programme by liaising with the Co-coordinators through support, guidance and encouragement.

Be in a role where you can make a difference in the lives of our elders. As a Selwyn Centre Community Liaison you will be responsible for actively promoting the Selwyn Centres and liaising with the Co-ordinators to facilitate education and training, to support the programmes introduced through the Selwyn Centres. It is also a navigation role in facilitating access to appropriate services for older people who are guests at our Selwyn Centres.

The Selwyn Centres provide companionship, fun, advice and support for older people living in the community. Hosted by the Anglican Church in parishes across Auckland (and the Waikato and Christchurch), in partnership with The Selwyn Foundation, The Selwyn Centres offer varied programmes of activities, events, laughter, and morning tea .

With up to 30 Selwyn Centres in the Auckland region this role will be focussed in predominantly supporting the South and East Auckland areas (approx. 14 centres) and other areas in Auckland when required. Based at the Homestead in Papakura, this is a permanent part-time position working 24 hours per week spread over 4 - 5 days anywhere between 9.30am - 3.30pm with flexibility.

To be successful in this role you must have strong interpersonal and influencing skills as the role involves networking and liaising with community organisations to assist our elders in accessing services. You also need to be able to demonstrate empathy and understanding of older people living in the community.

. Other requirements include:-

  • A relevant qualification or service delivery experience in social work or health sciences is essential
  • Full clean New Zealand driving license /own vehicle
  • Knowledge of the physical, social, emotional and cultural needs of our elders
  • Proven organisation and coordination skills
  • Working knowledge of MS Office
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work on own initiative
  • Any experience in delivering education programmes is advantageous
