We're looking for a good all rounder to work in team of five staff who look after the buildings and the grounds of this large retirement village which enjoys a reputation second to none. This is a full time role for 40 hours per week. Hours of work are 8.00 till 5pm (or 8.30 till 5.30pm).
Selwyn Heights, in Hillsborough is a highly sought after, modern retirement village with extensive grounds and a wide range of facilities. There are 24 villas, 221apartments and a care home for 50 residents. In total we have 370 residents living here and we're expecting the village to grow over the next few years. We pride ourselves on the appearance of the gardens, buildings and the excellent service provided to our residents.
Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Assistant's role is focused on maintaining, repairing and cleaning exterior parts of the buildings, plant and equipment. This is a front line, hands on job, ‘on the tools' and the work is varied, ranging from inspecting and assessing through to replacing light bulbs and undertaking minor repairs.
We expect you to have a basic knowledge of building maintenance and to have some experience looking after buildings and equipment, keeping it in good order and tidy.
You'll be methodical, show attention to detail, observant and have the knowledge necessary to ensure that everything you do is done to a high standard.
We'll expect you to understand customer service, to have an affinity with older people and to have personal qualities which will allow you to work affably and productively amongst the residents and with your colleagues.
Some specific requirements include:
- a current driver's license
- good spoken English: good at listening and following specific instructions
- being observant and taking pride in your work
- a high standard of personal presentation
- physically fit, energetic and able to cope with the demands made of any ‘handyman'
